Assistant Chief of Police Ronald McCarty

Interim Assistant Chief of Police Ronald McCarty began his law enforcement career with the Duncanville Police Department in 2010. Throughout his career, he has served in numerous operational, supervisory, training, and administrative assignments, including Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, SWAT Operator, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Professional Standards Commander. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2017, advanced to Lieutenant in 2024, and was appointed Interim Assistant Chief of Police on August 3, 2026.

Assistant Chief McCarty has extensive experience overseeing professional standards, internal affairs, training and personnel, recruiting and hiring, policy development, technology systems, grants, and departmental programs. His responsibilities have included administration of the department's records and dispatch technology systems, body-worn camera and digital evidence programs, radio systems, and public safety technology initiatives.

He is a graduate of the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy and the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration School of Police Supervision. He has also completed the Texas Police Chiefs Association Developing Leaders program. He holds multiple law enforcement instructor certifications and has served as a firearms, less-lethal, Taser, and emergency vehicle operations instructor. He is also a certified Motor Officer, Field Training Officer, Mental Health Peace Officer, Critical Incident Stress Management team member, and Texas Commission on Law Enforcement instructor.

Prior to beginning his law enforcement career, Assistant Chief McCarty served on active duty in the United States Army from 2004 to 2009 and continued his military service in the United States Army Reserve from 2009 to 2012. During his active-duty service, he completed two deployments to Iraq. His military awards include the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, and the Combat Action Badge.

Throughout his career, Assistant Chief McCarty has been recognized for his leadership and service, including being named the Duncanville Police Department's Supervisor of the Year in 2021.

Assistant Chief McCarty currently commands the Support Division of the Duncanville Police Department.
