The City of Duncanville is proud to announce that its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2024, has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This recognition is the highest honor in governmental accounting and financial reporting and reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accuracy, and strong financial stewardship.

Last year, the City of Duncanville launched a new partnership with SeeMyLegacy, an innovative online giving and community engagement platform designed to help residents, businesses, and stakeholders directly support the projects and programs that matter most to them.

The Holiday Lights Parade will follow a festive route through the heart of Duncanville to ensure a fun and safe experience for all spectators. The parade will begin at Freeman Road, travel east along Wheatland Road, turn south onto Main Street, and continue until it reaches Center St, where the parade will conclude.

The Duncanville Police Department is happy to announce that three individuals were identified and will face federal narcotics charges after a lengthy police investigation resulted in the seizure of approximately $10,000,000 in illegal narcotics.

The City of Duncanville, at the recommendation and in cooperation with Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS), will be conducting ground spraying against mosquitoes on Thursday, October 23, between the hours of 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM, weather permitting. The spraying is being conducted in response to the detection of West Nile Virus in a mosquito trap located in the 75137 zip code. The area being sprayed is north of E. Wintergreen Rd., south of E. Wheatland Rd., east of E. Hwy. 67, west of the east city limits.

STAR Transit is offering free, round-trip rides to local polling places for early and election day voting for the upcoming local elections. All registered voters within the STAR Transit service area are eligible to ride free. The service area includes Kaufman County, Rockwall County, Seagoville, Balch Springs, Mesquite, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, Hutchins, Lancaster and Wilmer.

The move is designed to modernize the City’s public meeting processes, streamline staff workflows, and provide residents with easier access to agendas, minutes, and meeting information.

Beginning October 1, 2025, the City of Duncanville will launch My Government Online (MGO), a new service request platform that will make it easier than ever for residents, businesses, and stakeholders to connect with City services.

The Duncanville City Council has approved funding for the City’s first round of Arts Grants, marking an exciting step forward in supporting local creativity and cultural expression. The funding follows the recommendations of the Duncanville Arts Commission, which carefully reviewed applications submitted during the inaugural grant cycle.

During an August 28, 2025, Special Called Meeting, the Duncanville City Council accepted the resignation of Douglas E. Finch, who served as City Manager since January 8, 2024. Mr. Finch’s resignation is due to personal and family reasons, and in keeping with his wishes, no further comments will be offered at this time.

The City of Duncanville is developing a Drainage Master Plan (DMP) to evaluate current and future drainage needs across the City. The DMP is a proactive effort to identify flood-prone areas, evaluate potential solutions, and help the City prioritize future drainage improvements.

The City of Duncanville, at the recommendation and in cooperation with Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS), will be conducting ground spraying against mosquitoes on Thursday, August 21, and Friday, August 22, 2025, between the hours of 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM, weather permitting. The spraying is being conducted in response to the detection of West Nile Virus in mosquito traps in the 75116 and 75137 zip codes. The affected areas include parts of Duncanville south of W. Camp Wisdom Road, east of N. Clark Road, west of N. Main Street, and north of W. Wheatland Road, as well as south of E. Wheatland Road, east of Santa Fe Trail, west of Highway 67, and north of the southern city limits.

The Duncanville Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect that was involved in a robbery that occurred on August 15, 2025.

At its recent Budget Workshop, the Duncanville City Council voted not to hold a bond election in November 2025. Instead, they plan to consider one in May 2026. This will give more time to study the needs of the Duncanville Police Station. At the same meeting, the Council asked for a “facilities assessment,” which is a study that looks at a building’s condition, how it is used now, and what will be needed in the future.

His appointment follows the retirement of longtime Assistant Fire Chief Greg Chase, who concluded his service on June 27, 2025.

The City of Duncanville has released the official 2025 Notice of Tax Rates. This includes the no-new-revenue tax rate and the voter-approval tax rate.

On Thursday, July 10, 2025, the Duncanville City Council voted to approve a request from City Manager Douglas E. Finch to take indefinite personal paid administrative leave. During this time, Mr. Finch will remain available as a resource to city leadership and staff.

The City of Duncanville is working closely with Republic Services to manage an increase in brush and bulk volume caused by recent storms. To help address the higher demand, we’ve brought in Camacho Tree Service and Landscaping to assist. Residents, businesses, and community groups are encouraged to join the effort to help keep Duncanville clean and beautiful.

Republic Services, in partnership with the City of Duncanville, is launching a Trash Cart Pilot Program in early April 2025 for 300 selected homes. This initiative introduces wheeled trash and recycling carts designed to improve efficiency, enhance neighborhood cleanliness, reduce issues like litter and pests, and to collect customer input.

To best prepare Police, Fire, and 911 Dispatch personnel to respond to active shooter/active attacker events, the cities of Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, and Lancaster joined forces for a large full-scale training exercise. The exercise took place all day Wednesday February 28, 2025 at Valley Ridge Park in Cedar Hill.

Weather permitting, all lanes of eastbound I-20 will be closed and detoured to the frontage roads from near the Duncanville Road/North Main Street exit (MM 462) and Cockrell Hill Road from 10 p.m. Friday, March 14 to 5 a.m. Saturday, March 15 as part of an ongoing corridor improvement project. Drivers can expect delays in the corridor and should be alert to slower traffic. The overall project is expected to complete in early 2025, weather permitting.

The Duncanville Public Works Department is currently undergoing clean-up, remediation, and disinfection of a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) that occurred in the City of Duncanville wastewater collection system on January 30, 2025, caused by weather conditions and heavy rainfall January 29 and 30, 2025.

The City of Duncanville extends its deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and loved ones of Robert Byron "Bob" Lee, who passed away on January 10, 2025. Bob Lee dedicated 39 years of remarkable service to the City of Duncanville, beginning in the Water Department and culminating in his role as Director of Utilities until his retirement in 1991.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for North Texas. In response, Duncanville city staff, who have been monitoring weather developments for days, have begun implementing plans to protect and assist the community.

On December 29, 2024, at approximately 7:41 PM, Duncanville Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of E. Highway 67 Service Road. Officers arrived on the scene within minutes but found no victims or suspects.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the Duncanville City Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Fee Schedule, which includes a rate increase for services provided by Republic Services for solid waste pickup and Waste Management for landfill disposal services. As stated in their contract, Republic Services may request an annual increase based upon changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

On August 14, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Duncanville Police Officers responded to multiple calls for service regarding a shooting with injury at 875 E Highway 67 Service Road. Within two minutes, officers arrived at the scene and located an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers provided immediate medical assistance to the male and summoned Duncanville Fire Department paramedics to the scene. Duncanville Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported the male to Methodist Dallas Medical Center.

Early on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, rain and destructive winds moved through Duncanville, Texas. Many residents emerged from their homes without electricity to find fallen trees and branches. Even Duncanville City Hall was not immune to power outages that hit the city. However, during and after the storm, city staff jumped into action, responding to calls and clearing streets.

The Duncanville Police Department is currently conducting an investigation after a body was discovered by firefighters while responding to a structure fire at an apartment complex.

On April 11, 2024, at 4:28 p.m., Duncanville Police Department Officers were dispatched to a suspicious activity call for service in the 1300 block of Circle Drive. The reporting party advised that he located a missile-shaped object, possibly an explosive while digging in his backyard. The reporting party was instructed to evacuate his home immediately.

During the Tuesday, April 2, 2024, Regular Meeting of the Duncanville City Council, the governing body approved City Manager Douglas Finch’s appointment of Greg Chase as Duncanville Fire Department’s Interim Fire Chief. Greg Chase’s appointment comes after the announcement of Fire Chief Sam Rohde’s retirement.

The Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees has unanimously named Dr. T. Lamar Goree as the Lone Finalist for Superintendent of Schools.

On Monday, February 12, 2024, the dedicated men and women of the Duncanville Fire Department (Station #2 – ‘B Shift’) gathered with Chief Rohde and City Administration, including City Manager Douglas Finch, Assistant City Manager Robert Brown, Assistant to City Manager David Kees, and Executive Liaison Sofine Lewis. Amidst a breakfast meeting, firefighters shared their concerns about the staggering call volume of over 7,000 calls per year and emphasized the urgent need for additional staffing and equipment to better serve the residents of the City of Duncanville.

On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Garrett Shay Hamilton pled guilty and received a life sentence for two murders and 25 years for his involvement in five aggravated robberies.
