With the school year back in full swing, City of Duncanville staff recently collected a few items for Duncanville ISD’s Panther Pantry.
Collection boxes were set up at City Hall, and over the course of the week, staff filled them with cereal, mac & cheese, ramen, socks, and other items to help stock the pantry.
Last week, we packed everything up and delivered the donations to the Panther Pantry, where they’ll help support Duncanville ISD students and families.

Take the Better Block Survey
This fall, the City of Duncanville and Better Block will temporarily reimagine the South Main Street corridor at East Wheatland Road to explore safer streets, stronger connections, and more vibrant public spaces.
The demonstration will test ideas like traffic calming, safer pedestrian crossings, outdoor seating, public art, and community gathering spaces to better connect Downtown Duncanville, Armstrong Park, nearby neighborhoods, businesses, and civic destinations. Throughout the project, community feedback and data will help inform future investments and long-term improvements along the corridor.

Communications Assessment
The City of Duncanville has contracted with Cooksey Communications to conduct a communications assessment. Cooksey has undertaken a Comprehensive Strategic Communications Assessment, also known as an “audit,” for the City of Duncanville, which began in the summer of 2026. The Cooksey team will conduct interviews with internal and external stakeholders to gather perspectives on the Duncanville communications effort.

Councilmembers McBurnett and Koontz toured Station 2 on July 23, 2026. Elton Brock (Procurement) is also assisting at this point. Met with Mr. Abernethy, Mr. Rauscher, Matt Bryant, Evan Barger, and Elton Brock to review Station 2 Renovation plans.

On September 4th the Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office notified City staff that one (1) of our census tracts was selected with 605 census tracts as part of Texas' Opportunity Zone 2.0 nominations to the U.S. Treasury Department.

Parks
- Department had our MS4 inspection and received all passing scores for our splash pad and parks facility.
- Crews continued preparing facilities for upcoming games and events, including painting soccer fields and foul lines, preparing Lions Park, dragging Alexander Fields 1–3, and continuing cleanup and renovation work at BBI Fields 1–5.
- Staff mowed and cleaned several high-use parks and City facilities, including Armstrong, Lakeside, Red Bird, City Hall, Police Station, Annex, Library, and Recreation Center.
- Crews completed landscape bed, shrub, and tree maintenance at multiple City facilities while addressing fallen and low-hanging limbs at Armstrong Park, City Hall, Police Station, Kidsville, and the Community Theatre.
- Staff prepared athletic facilities for 6 upcoming events and completed game preparations at Lions Park. Overall field conditions were rated 4 out of 5 despite continued hot weather and staffing challenges.
- Staff painted soccer fields and foul lines using the Turf Tank robot and Kromer, prepared Lions Park for games, and dragged and repainted Alexander Fields 1–3 for practices.
- Crews continued planning for upcoming field improvements, including home plate and plug replacements, and requested a quote for an edger attachment for the ABI Force machine.
- Crews completed mowing throughout the City corridor, including the Police Station, City Hall, Annex, Library, and Recreation Center.
- Crews cut and cleaned up low-hanging branches around City Hall and the Police Station to improve clearance, visibility, and overall appearance.
- Crews completed additional landscape maintenance at Fire Station 2 and along the Main Corridor, including spraying jasmine and corridor areas and trimming Vitex trees.
- Crews addressed tree and limb maintenance at Armstrong Park, Kidsville, and the Community Theatre. The Armstrong Park area was coned off where additional work will require a bucket or brush truck.
Recreation Center
Program Highlight – Ayyye Line Dancing
The Ayyye Line Dancing Program is offered at the Duncanville Recreation Center every Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00–8:15 p.m. for just $20 per month. Led by instructor Tiffany Ashford, the program keeps participants moving and stepping to some of their favorite line-dancing songs while learning the proper flow and choreography to the music.
Whether you are new to line dancing or an experienced stepper, this is the perfect class to have fun, stay active, and learn some new moves.
The program is also getting ready for a special live performance featuring Prince Djae & The Vibe Crew on October 24 at 6:45 p.m. This free community concert will give everyone the opportunity to enjoy live music and dance with the Ayyye Line Dancing Program. Come join us, get your groove on, and experience the fun of line dancing!
Program Highlight – Yoga & Pilates
Led by instructor Noemi Perez, the Yoga & Pilates Program combines both workouts into one unique fitness experience. Classes are offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:30–8:15 p.m.
Participants begin with a Pilates workout focused on strength, flexibility, and core development, followed by yoga to help stretch, relax, and improve mobility.
For just $40 per month, participants can join Noemi and the group three days a week at the Duncanville Recreation Center.
Facility Highlight – Registration iPad
The Duncanville Recreation Center recently introduced an iPad at the front desk to improve the customer service and registration experience for members and guests.
The iPad allows new guests to create their own Recreation Center account, helping speed up the registration process and reduce wait times at the front desk. Staff can also use the iPad to assist guests with online program registration and other services.
This new resource has helped make the check-in and registration process quicker and more convenient, creating a better experience for guests visiting the Recreation Center.
Community Event Highlight – Movie in the Park: Remember the Titans
This past weekend, the Duncanville Recreation Center hosted the third movie of the year as part of the Movie in the Park series, featuring the family favorite Remember the Titans. With NFL football season getting ready to kick off, the movie was a great opportunity for the community to get into the football spirit.
The event welcomed just under 50 attendees, with everyone enjoying complimentary popcorn and refreshments. Kathy’s Kitchen Food Truck was also on-site, serving park favorites including Cajun burgers, boudain balls, and other delicious Cajun-inspired menu items.
Movie in the Park is a free community event series for friends and families to enjoy movies, food, and time together outdoors. With Halloween right around the corner, the Recreation Center will continue the series with a showing of the live-action Scooby-Doo on October 17 at 6:45 p.m. Come out and join us for a spooky night at the park!

Festival de las Américas

Armstrong Park
The City of Duncanville is preparing to welcome the community to Festival de las Américas this Saturday, September 12, from 4:00 to 10:00 PM at Armstrong Park. The free, family-friendly festival will celebrate the music, culture, food, and traditions of the Americas through an evening of live entertainment, cultural experiences, and activities for all ages.
The Stage will feature a full lineup of live entertainment throughout the evening, including headliner EZ Band, Mariachi Las Alteñas, Dariel Amant, folklórico and cultural performances, and local community entertainment. The evening’s programming will showcase a variety of musical and cultural traditions and provide continuous entertainment leading into the festival’s headlining performance.
In addition to the stage entertainment, attendees can experience a special dancing horse performance, bringing a unique cultural element to the festival.
Food trucks will be on-site offering a variety of food and festival favorites, while the Vendor Marketplace will feature local businesses, makers, organizations, and community vendors. These areas will provide opportunities for attendees to support local businesses while enjoying food, shopping, and community engagement throughout the festival.
Family activities will be located throughout the event and will include bounce houses, interactive activities, and festival photo opportunities created by Village Tech, creating additional experiences for children and families beyond the main stage programming.
Staff has completed final coordination with participating City departments, public safety personnel, vendors, performers, volunteers, and event partners. Final preparations are focused on event-day operations, site setup, traffic and parking, vendor placement, stage production, VIP hospitality, safety, and guest experience.
Festival de las Américas represents the City’s continued effort to create signature events that celebrate Duncanville’s diverse community while attracting visitors to the City of Champions. Staff looks forward to welcoming residents and visitors to Armstrong Park for an evening of live music, dancing, food, shopping, cultural entertainment, and family fun.

- Crews completed sidewalk construction and executed an Americans with Disabilities–compliant ramp concrete pour on South Alexander Avenue.
- Crews completed street and sidewalk concrete pours on Michaels Drive.
- Crew removed trash from the street on Barrymore Lane.
- Crew supported the high school football game by setting up barricades and cones.
- Crew completed tree‑branch trimming on a South Cockrell Hill Road bridge.
