BUILDING PERMITS AND INSPECTIONS
 
Building Weekly Inspection Report
  • There were 59 total building inspections this week. 44 inspections passed, 14 failed, 0 canceled, and 1 partial pass.
  • 87 Building Permits were issued this week: 5 complete, 23 fees due, 7 in review, 23 issued, 28 issued and complete, and 1 resubmittal.

Health Weekly Inspection Report

  • This week, there were 14 total health inspections, 1 billing in person for Annual Health Renewal, 1 for the Health Certificate of Occupancy, and 1 for Annual Swimming Pool Inspections. 4 routine health inspections, 5 complaints.

Total Fees Collected for the Week: $23,280.00.


CODE ENFORCEMENT

Rental Weekly Inspection Report

  • A total of 25 rental inspections were scheduled this week: 9 passed, 16 failed, and 0 were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection, missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, inadequate ground rods, and water heaters that did not meet current code standards.
  • 9 Single Family Rental Certificates of Occupancy have been reissued.
  • A total of 2 Apartment Unit Inspections for this week have been completed.

COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING

Emergency Management

  • Emergency Management Specialist Kevin Bradley facilitated the Duncanville Christmas event after action review and sent staff the After-Action Report
  • Emergency Management Team attended National Weather Service Integrated Warning training
  • Emergency Management Specialist Kevin Bradley attended Readiness: Training Identification and Preparedness Planning training.
  • EMT attended the Dallas County Emergency Managers meeting.
  • EMT attended the Village Tech School Safety Committee meeting.
  • EMT assisted City of Waxahachie Police Department with their Emergency Operations Center Activation Drill
  • EMT met with the Cedar Hill Independent School District Police and Emergency Management to discuss school emergency plans.
  • Emergency Management Team toured the City of DeSoto Aquatics and Recreation Center for emergency plan work.

Fire Administration 

  • Attended City Council Workshop at Hilton Garden Inn.
  • Met with City of Grand Prairie Fire Department Special Operations Chief Stevenson to facilitate response agreement. This agreement covers responding to Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue, Swiftwater incidents, Dive Team Operations, Rail Incidents, Rope Rescues, and other Special Operations incidents to support the City of Duncanville Fire Department.
  • Met with Dallas Fire Rescue Fire Chief Justin Ball, who reiterated to assist the City of Duncanville Fire Department with Special Operations incidents. This support is greatly appreciated and part of the Best Practices initiative to ensure agreements are in place to provide our Fire Department with the resources we lack in Special Operations.
  • Attended Executive Team meeting.
  • Assistant Chief James Leary attended the city council meeting.
  • Continued to work on the Texas Fire Chiefs Association Best Practices designation. Insurance Services Office will review the City's fire department resources on May 12, 2026, to qualify for an ISO Class 1 rating and reduce property insurance rates.

  • Deputy Fire Marshal Logan Henry passed Exam #3 and the final exam for his Fire Investigation course. Congratulations! He is also scheduled for the Fire Inspector state test on Friday, May 19, 2025.

On Thursday, December 11, 2025, Chick-fil-A proudly hosted a Santa Cop Toy Drive, bringing joy and generosity to our community. Their hospitality and commitment helped make the event a success and ensured that many children would have a brighter holiday season. We are sincerely thankful for Chick-fil-A’s continued support and dedication to giving back.

Tuesday, December 30, 2025 Craftastic (4:30 PM – 5:30 PM): Craft something fantastic by hand! Create with paper crafts, collage, and other simple projects. For adults, but open to all ages.

  • Sewing Tutorial, Saturdays at 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM. Join this small-scale sewing tutorial. Sign up in person or call us. Limit 3 per session.
  • Maker Time, Saturdays at 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM. Use the makerspace to work on your creative projects.

Ongoing Youth Programs:

  • Homeschool Hangout, Mondays at 10:30 AM. Calling all homeschoolers! Join us in a space where students can engage in fun STEAM activities…or hang out with each other! For children aged 6 –11 and their families or caregivers.
  • LEGO® Maniacs, Mondays at 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Come play with Legos!
  • Baby Play, Tuesdays at 10:15 AM. Come play with your child in our discovery stations. Children explore early concepts and develop fine motor skills through interactive play. Ages 0 – 3 years, accompanied by a caregiver.
  • Preschool Literacy Games, Tuesdays at 11:15 AM. Develop your child’s early literacy skills through alphabet, vocabulary, word work, and phonemic awareness games. Ages 3 – 6 and a caregiver.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 
 

Applications are now open for the Duncanville Community and Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) Design Incentive Grant Program, an initiative designed to support local businesses through financial assistance for exterior and interior design improvements, and more. Design Incentive Grant applications will be accepted through March 1, 2026. As we wrap up another successful year of community events and programs, we want to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season. Thank you to our residents, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and staff who continue to support and participate in our city’s events, your involvement is what makes them so special.

While we take time to enjoy the holidays, planning is already underway for our next signature event, BloomFest Music & Arts Festival, scheduled for May 9. We are cooking up some exciting new elements for BloomFest, and in the coming months, we will be calling on our community, partners, artists, vendors, and sponsors to help bring it all to life.

More details will be released soon, including opportunities to get involved. We encourage everyone to follow the City Special Events on social media to stay up to date on BloomFest announcements and all upcoming events.

We look forward to an exciting year ahead and can’t wait to celebrate with everyone again this spring.

  • Crews supported and completed extensive setup for the City Christmas Lighting Event.
  • Crews continued citywide holiday cleanup and transitioned parks back to standard operations.
  • Crews completed multiple mulching projects and seasonal cutbacks across key locations.
  • Crews began preparing athletic fields for the winter charter school season.
  • Crews conducted playground inspections and addressed several maintenance issues.
  • Crews performed lighting repairs and photocell replacements at Armstrong Park.
  • Staff repaired playground equipment and replaced damaged boards on the Lakeside dock.
  • Crews removed graffiti and cleaned amenities at the playgrounds.
  • Crews re-seeded worn areas on the Harrington soccer fields.
  • Staff performed watering at War Memorial Park, Duncanville Fieldhouse, Waterview Park, and corridor beds.

Recreation Center

Community Event Highlight

This past weekend, we hosted our annual Cookies with Santa event. Guests had the opportunity to take photos with Santa, decorate sugar or gingerbread cookies, and write letters to Santa for delivery to the North Pole. There were approximately 100 guests in attendance.

Planning and Zoning
  • The Planning & Zoning team presented at the City Council workshop on December 12, 2025, regarding updates to the Zoning Ordinance, the creation of a cultural overlay district for Downtown, and nonconforming land uses.

PUBLIC WORKS 

Street Division
  • Crew removed debris and overgrown vegetation from the creek area in Harrington Park. Crews prepared equipment for weather-related operations and cleaned the yard.
  • Crews poured concrete and laid hot mix asphalt to complete utility repair work on West Wheatland Road.
  • Crews cleared debris from rain gutters on Green Valley Place.
  • Crews used hot mix asphalt to repair utility cuts on Wilson Court and Granada Drive.
  • Crews repaired seven potholes across the city.
  • Crew removed debris from the roadway on Roundtop Boulevard.
Utilities Division
  • From December 8-14, 2025, 28,404,930 gallons of water were pumped. The estimated water loss for that week was 660,540 gallons, including water main breaks and hydrant flushing.
  • Water leaks were repaired on Greenleaf Lane and Gaynor Avenue.
  • Hydromax USA continues to install global positioning systems on fire hydrants on the north end of town.

Cedar Ridge Drive Improvements

At the December 16, 2025, City Council meeting, the project was awarded to Estrada Concrete Company, LLC.
