On Saturday, June 6, 2026, families attended the Duncanville Public Library's Summer Reading Kickoff event, which featured games and activities for readers of all ages.

There were 12 health inspections: 5 for Annual Health Renewal, 4 for the Health Certificate of Occupancy, and 3 for Annual Swimming Pool Inspections. 0 routine health inspections, 0 mobile food unit inspections, and 0 complaints.

Rental Weekly Inspection Report

A total of 38 rental inspections were scheduled: 11 passed, 27 failed, and 0 were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of GFCI (Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection, missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, and ground rods and water heaters not up to current code.

9 Single Family Rental Certificates of Occupancy have been reissued.

A total of 9 Apartment Unit Inspections have been completed. There were 0 complaints.

Join the Summer Reading Club at the Duncanville Public Library! The Summer Reading Club is open to all ages. Unearth a story this summer, have fun reading, and pick up prizes along the way, including Treasure Chest items (for ages 4 – 18) and books.     Wednesdays (2 – 4 PM). Unplug and enjoy playing some fun board games such as Jenga, Battleship, Sorry!, and more. Ideal for children aged 6 – 11 but open to all ages.

    Want to grow your sewing skills? Learn to work with buttons, zippers, elastic, and more in these beginner-friendly project-based tutorials! Thursdays (3 – 5 PM). Limit 3 per session. Age 14 and up welcome. Sign up in person or contact the library by phone (972-780-5050).

Ongoing Adult Programs

As part of the business recruitment and attraction strategy for commercial retail sites, the Economic Development staff attended the ICSC Las Vegas retail convention (May 18–20), one of the largest retail real estate events in the world, representing Duncanville with a two-person staff delegation supported by our real estate advisory partners at Catalyst Commercial. Combined, the team conducted approximately 15 brand meetings, site discussions, and organizational connections across the three-day event. A detailed summary of outcomes, contacts, and follow-up actions will be published next week and incorporated into the department's upcoming semi-annual report.

  • Kim and Jenny’s Café - Incentive Agreement, $135,000, Approved by DCEDC on September 8, 2025, and by City Council on October 21, 2025
  • Parklane Investments dba Corinth Properties - Chapter 380 Sales Tax Incentive, up to $150,000 over 5 years, approved by DCEDC on December 15, 2025, and City Council on February 3, 2026.
  • Railroad Flats Property – A Chapter 380 Agreement with Pagaso California Construction Corp was approved by the City Council on March 3, 2026, as part of the purchase and redevelopment of this vacant parcel in the Downtown District. The proposed development will add housing units to the trade market by constructing up to 34 townhomes for sale. The proposed project must still secure site plan approvals and an amendment to the existing Planned Development zoning ordinance by the Planning Commission and City Council.
  • Resolution approving amendment to the incentive agreement with BCVCR Holdings, LLC was authorized by City Council on April 7, 2026.
  • Red Bird Bowling Lanes, Inc. - Infrastructure & Pavement Design Incentive Grants, $30,000, approved by DCEDC- May 18, 2026. Item is scheduled to appear on the June 16, 2026, City Council Agenda.
  • A2Z Trading LLC DBA JZ Embroidery- Infrastructure, Landscaping, Pavement, Signage, & Paint Design Incentive Grants, $30,000, approved by DCEDC on May 18, 2026. Item is scheduled to appear on the June 16, 2026, City Council Agenda.
  • Lin and Jen’s Hats On, LLC - Signage Design Incentive Grant, $2,500, approved by DCEDC on May 18, 2026. Item is scheduled to appear on the June 16, 2026, City Council Agenda.

Parks

  • Staff continued citywide landscape bed maintenance, weed control, and park beautification efforts.
  • Crews conducted post-storm inspections and completed cleanup of storm-related debris.
  • Staff continued athletic field maintenance and seasonal turf transition activities.
  • Crews completed routine park mowing, trail maintenance, and facility inspections.
  • Staff applied herbicide treatments at Cockrell Hill and playground areas.
  • Crews removed brush and vegetation from walking trails at Waterview and Armstrong Parks.
  • Staff conducted playground inspections and monitored trail lighting.
  • Crews assisted with removal of a large storm-damaged tree at Lakeside Park.
  • Staff performed landscape bed maintenance at City Hall, Police Department, Costco, Waterview, 67 and Main, Fieldhouse, Fire Station, Service Center, Willow Run, and the City Hall Flagpole area.
  • Crews completed weed removal, shrub trimming, herbicide applications, and bed cleanup at multiple facilities.
  • Staff mowed athletic fields at Harrington, Armstrong, Lions, and Lakeside Parks.
  • Staff removed excess grass clippings from athletic fields.
  • Crews continued mowing operations at Nichols and Rotary Parks.
  • Staff completed mowing and trimming around soccer facilities.

Recreation Center

Program Highlights

Ayyye Line Dancing
Throughout the month of May, participants could take advantage of a special $10 Line Dancing class promotion, encouraging residents to stay active and support their overall physical & mental wellness. The program concluded with a total of 25 monthly participants.

To conclude the month, participants enjoyed a Mental Health Awareness after-party where guests could socialize, engage in meaningful conversations, and build new friendships and community connections. The event highlighted the importance of physical activity, social engagement, and community support in promoting positive mental health.

Jazzercise
This past week, the Jazzercise program hosted a special Memorial Day-themed class. Participants enjoyed a complimentary workout in the same fun, engaging fitness program in an outdoor setting. The class provided a unique opportunity for community members to stay active, enjoy the beautiful weather, and celebrate Memorial Day alongside fellow participants.

Camp Highlight – B.O.S.S. Summer Camp
This week marks the kickoff of the B.O.S.S. Summer Camp. Through a partnership between the Duncanville Fieldhouse and the Duncanville Recreation Center, the B-Team campers ages 5–6 will visit the Recreation Center Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 4:00PM.

During their time at the Recreation Center, campers will participate in a variety of programs, games, and recreational activities designed to keep them active, engaged, and having fun throughout the summer. This partnership provides campers with additional opportunities to enjoy Recreation Center amenities and create memorable summer experiences.

Facility Highlight – New Gaming Area

The Recreation Center is proud to announce its newest amenity: a Gaming Lounge located in the facility lobby. The new space features a PlayStation 5 with popular titles such as NBA 2K and NCAA College Football, as well as a Nintendo Switch featuring family-friendly games including Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros.

We are excited to bring this new addition to the Recreation Center, providing members and guests with another fun activity to enjoy with family and friends. The Gaming Lounge also opens the door for future opportunities, including the potential development of youth and adult E-Sports leagues and gaming tournaments. This enhancement reflects our continued commitment to creating engaging recreational experiences for all ages.

Special Events

The City of Duncanville is excited to participate in and promote two outstanding regional and community celebrations taking place over the next several weeks.

BEST SOUTHWEST JUNETEENTH FESTIVAL

On Saturday, June 13, the Best Southwest Partnership will host the annual Juneteenth Festival at Lancaster Community Park. This regional celebration brings together the cities of Duncanville, Lancaster, Cedar Hill, and DeSoto to commemorate Juneteenth while celebrating culture, community, and unity throughout the Best Southwest region.

The festival will feature live entertainment, nationally recognized musical artists, food vendors, community organizations, wellness activities, youth activities, and family-friendly experiences throughout the day. The event serves as an opportunity to honor the significance of Juneteenth while highlighting the strength and collaboration of the Best Southwest communities.

Residents are encouraged to attend and support this regional celebration as Duncanville joins its neighboring cities in recognizing this important occasion.

RED, WHITE, & GOALS – JULY 3 & 4

Following Juneteenth, the City of Duncanville is preparing for one of the largest community celebrations of the summer, Red, White & Goals, taking place July 3 and July 4.

This two-day event combines America’s 250th anniversary celebration, community festivities, and the excitement surrounding soccer during a historic summer for the sport in North Texas.

July 3 activities will include:
Soccer Watch Party, Youth Soccer Day, Family activities and entertainment.

July 4 activities will include:

Lions Club Parade at 9:00 AM, Community celebration, Food vendors and activities, Live entertainment, Fireworks show.

Wristbands are required for admission to designated event areas, and availability is limited.

Wristband registration is available online, and community members are encouraged to reserve their spots early to ensure entry into the festivities. Residents who have registered may begin picking up their wristbands on June 29 at the following locations:

Attendees will need to present the QR code received during registration to claim their wristbands. Blue wristbands will be distributed for July 3 admission, and red wristbands for July 4 admission. The City encourages residents to secure their wristbands early and plan to join us for this exciting two-day celebration as we come together to honor community, patriotism, and the spirit of Duncanville. PLANNING AND ZONING

  • The Planning and Zoning Department is currently working on updating various land uses.
  • The Planning and Zoning Commission met on Monday, June 8. There were 7 items on the agenda; 5 were approved, and 3 were denied.

PUBLIC WORKS

Construction Notice

The City of Duncanville is starting construction! Please anticipate increased traffic and delays in the area. Construction will begin on April 25, 2026, with an estimated completion in mid-May 2027. Please note that rocky soil conditions and weather can impact the scheduled timeline.

Who: Residents of Duncanville
What: Project: The project consists of the reconstruction of roadway paving, drainage, water, wastewater, sidewalk, and pedestrian improvements.
Where: North Cedar Ridge Drive from Cathy Self-Morgan Way/Middale to W. Camp Wisdom Road.
When: April 25, 2026, through mid-May 2027.
Why: To repair the roadway and utilities that have exceeded their lifetime and provide better service and safety to the residents and public.

Street Division

  • Crews cut and removed overgrown tree branches and debris within the right-of-way on South Santa Fe Trail, Meadowglen Drive, and Spring Lake Drive.
  • Crew repaired eight potholes at various locations throughout the city.
  • Crew retrieved a citizen’s keys from the storm drain inlet on Rocky Creek Drive.
  • Crew laid asphalt milling over the drive approach to help slow down and keep rainwater inside the drainage structure.
  • Crew completed five utility drainage locates across various locations citywide.
  • Crews removed a fallen tree over the sidewalk on Meadowglen Drive.
  • Crew provided traffic control devices supporting the Grand Prix kids' big wheel racing event.
  • Crew completed sidewalk concrete pours on Quail Run, Oriole Boulevard, and Sparta Drive.
  • Crews used the brush truck to remove fallen trees from the creek at various locations throughout the city.

Utilities Division

  • From June 1-7, 2026, 32,749,400 gallons of water were pumped. The estimated water loss for that week was 245,000 gallons.
