Building Weekly Inspection Report
  • There were 51 total building inspections this week. 36 inspections passed, 15 failed, 0 canceled, and 2 partial passes.
  • 91 Building Permits were issued this week.

Health Weekly Inspection Report

  • This week, there were 15 total health inspections, 3 billing in person for Annual Health Renewal, 4 for the Health Certificate of Occupancy, and 0 for Annual Swimming Pool Inspections. 6 routine health inspections, 0 mobile food unit inspections, and 2 complaints.

Total Fees Collected for the Week: $30,098.50.


CODE ENFORCEMENT

Rental Weekly Inspection Report:

  • A total of 38 rental inspections were scheduled this week: 27 passed, 11 failed, and 0 were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection, missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, inadequate ground rods, and water heaters that did not meet current code standards.
  • 9 Single Family Rental Certificates of Occupancy have been reissued.
  • A total of 17 Apartment Unit Inspections for this week have been completed.

  • Continuing to work on the Texas Fire Chiefs Association Best Practices project. Making significant progress and expect to complete this project in 2026.

DUNCANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Police Department welcomes the public to access www.crimemapping.com for resources; citizens can sign up for crime alerts within their location's radius.
 

Personnel

 Our Santa Cop delivery took place on December 20, 2025. This year, the program supported more than 50 deserving families by providing not only toys, but also essential items such as coats, clothing, shoes, and grocery store gift cards. In addition, the Duncanville Police Department gifted a car to a family in urgent need. Truly our best year yet!

  • Recruit Joseph Valdez completed week 11 of the North Central Texas Council of Governments Police Academy.
  • On Monday, January 12, 2026, four new recruits, Jacqueline Doss, Julio Padron, Ricky Logan, and Aidan Smith, officially began their training at the North Central Texas Council of Governments Police Academy. Best of luck to each of them as they take this exciting first step in their law enforcement careers!

DUNCANVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY

 

Children, join us for the next Read to Dogs program on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM, where you can practice reading to trained therapy dogs.

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Duncanville Public Library will be closed Monday, January 19, 2026.

 

Ongoing Adult Programs:

  • Craftastic, Tuesdays at 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM. Craft something fantastic by hand! Create with paper crafts, collage, and other simple projects. For adults, but open to all ages.

  • Computer Basics, Tuesdays at 6 PM – 7:30 PM. Learn the basic concepts of using a computer. Chromebooks are available, or bring your own device.

  • Tech Tutors, Wednesdays at 7 PM – 7:45 PM. Get help with any of your own devices or on one of our public computers.

  • New! Additional Thursday afternoon sessions (4:30 PM – 5:30 PM) available on January 15 and January 29.

  • Sewing Tutorial, Saturdays at 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM. Join this small-scale sewing tutorial. Sign up in person or call us. Limit 3 per session.

  • Maker Time, Saturdays at 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM. Use the makerspace to work on your creative projects.

  • New! Additional Friday afternoon sessions (3:30 PM – 5:30 PM) available on January 9 and January 23, 2026.

  • Homeschool Hangout, Mondays at 10:30 AM. Calling all homeschoolers! Join us in a space where students can engage in fun STEAM activities…or hang out with each other! For children aged 6 –11 and their families or caregivers.

  • LEGO® Maniacs, Mondays at 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Come play with Legos!

  • Baby Play, Tuesdays at 10:15 AM. Come play with your child in our discovery stations. Kids explore early concepts and fine motor skills all through interactive play. Ages 0 – 3 years and a caregiver.

  • Game On! Tuesdays (6 – 7:30 PM): Teens aged 12-18 can enjoy board games or console games (Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5) together.

  • Preschool Story Time, Thursdays at 10:15 AM. Story time fun for ages 3 – 6 and a caregiver.

  • Toddler Story Time, Thursdays at 11:15 AM. Story time fun for toddlers. Open to ages 0 – 3 and a caregiver.


ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 
 

Applications are now open for the Duncanville Community and Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) Design Incentive Grant Program, an initiative designed to support local businesses through financial assistance for exterior and interior design improvements, and more. Design Incentive Grant applications will be accepted through March 1, 2026. Economic Development Coordinator, Marcela Perez, will join the Leadership Southwest Class of 2026, beginning January 21, 2026, representing the City of Duncanville alongside other city staff and Mayor Greg Contreras. Leadership Southwest is a cooperative effort sponsored by the Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville and Lancaster Chambers of Commerce, with a mission to connect people and prepare them as leaders to shape the future of Southwest Dallas and Northern Ellis Counties.

Special Events 

Planning is underway for the BloomFest Music & Arts Festival, scheduled for May 9, 2026, which will once again celebrate music, arts, and community engagement in Duncanville. BloomFest continues to serve as a signature event that supports local culture, attracts visitors, and provides opportunities for community participation.


As part of this year’s programming, staff has launched the Battle of the Bands, a live music competition designed to showcase local and regional talent during the festival. Bands are selected through an application process and will perform live on the BloomFest stage, with performances evaluated by a judging panel. Top performers will be recognized during the event.

PARKS

  • Crews completed removal and storage of Christmas décor and the Memorial Park Christmas tree.

  • Crew continued post-holiday cleanup efforts, including banner removal and replacement along park walking trails.

  • Staff made significant progress on Field 8 at Harrington Park, including fence removal, concrete demolition, and site cleanup.

  • Crews repaired sidewalk and completed trench backfilling at Alexander Park.

  • Staff dragged and painted athletic fields in preparation for continued winter play.

  • Crews anchored down and stored soccer goals as fields transitioned to winter use.

  • Staff performed bed maintenance at Memorial Park and along the Main Street Corridor.

  • Staff conducted citywide park tree inspections across multiple park locations and facilities.

Recreation Center

Community Event Highlight

Membership Drive is currently underway at the Duncanville Recreation Center. Both residents and non-residents can take advantage of a 50% discount on the one-year membership rate, bringing the cost down to a little less than the 6-month membership rate offered year-round.

In the spirit of health and wellness, we are offering renewal and new members swag items such as bottle openers, caps, and shirts. They must spin a merchandise wheel to learn what swag item they have won. The drive has been going extremely well, and it appears we will match or enroll more people this year than last year.

Class Highlight

Cheerleading had its awards ceremony yesterday in the gym. Approximately 15 girls received awards. See the picture provided early this morning. Cheerleading promotes teamwork, the importance of physical education, and the opportunity to have fun with other students in the program.

Health Fair & Instructor Meet & Greet

  • This event is designed to boost program participation and membership sales for both the Recreation and Senior Centers. In addition, health vendors will be in attendance, giving guests the opportunity to connect with local health professionals and learn more about the services they offer.

Planning and Zoning
  • The Planning & Zoning team presented two cases to the Planning & Zoning Commission on January 12, 2026. Both were recommended for approval and will go to City Council in February. One case was for an event center and outdoor pickleball courts. The other case was for Temporary Workforce Housing use in a residential zoning district.


PUBLIC WORKS 

Cedar Ridge Drive Improvements

  • At the December 162026 City Council meeting, the project was awarded to Estrada Concrete Company, LLC. They have received the contract and will provide all required documents to begin the project soon.
Street Division
  • Crew cleaned four storm drain inlets on Wayne Avenue.

  • Crew repaired a type III barricade on Santa Fe Trail.

  • Crew repaired 18 potholes at various locations throughout the city.

  • Crews poured concrete for a street repair on South Cedar Ridge Drive.

  • Crews performed recurring maintenance work at Beavercreek Drive and Clark Road bridges.

 

Summit Pump Generator

  •  The Automatic Transfer Switch for the generator has arrived and is being wired. The generator is expected to be fully operational next month.

 

Utilities Division
  •  From January 5-11, 2026, 32,581,120 gallons of water were pumped. The estimated water loss for that week was 648,515 gallons, including main breaks and leaks.
  • Hydromax USA continues to obtain and record Global Positioning System site coordinates of fire hydrants on the north end of town.
