- A total of 76 Rental inspections were scheduled this week;7 passed, 69 failed, and 0 were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection, missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, ground rods, and water heaters not up to current code.
- 10 Single-Family Rental Certificates of Occupancy have been reissued for this week, and 2 apartment units.
- There were 59 Total Building inspections this week. 42 inspections passed, 15 failed, 2 canceled, and 0 partially passed.
- This week, there were 15 total health inspections: 1 for the annual renewal, 1 for the health certificate of occupancy, 2 for the annual swimming pool inspections, 9 routine health inspections, and 2 health complaints on businesses.
- The total amount of fees collected was $ 147,127.95.

Fight the Bite
To prevent the spread of mosquitoes, residents should remove all areas of standing water. Residents should also report all pools that are not well maintained and abandoned homes where mosquitoes are likely to breed to either City of Duncanville Health Services by calling (972) 780-5000 or through the OurDuncanville app, available on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Everyone should continue to protect themselves against the West Nile Virus by using insect repellent containing DEET. Citizens are also encouraged to remain indoors during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Duncanville Police Chief Matthew Stogner, Assistant Chief Adrian Tijerina, and Lieutenant Robert Byrd engaged with residents during a productive town hall in the Merribrook Trail neighborhood.
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, Assistant Chiefs Adrian Tijerina and Ron Wilcots participated with other executive team members in Emergency Operation Center (EOC) training at City of Duncanville Fire Station 1.
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the last day of school, the Chief, Assistant Chiefs, Patrol Officers, Training and Personnel Officers, and Detectives fanned out across streets, city parks, parking lots, and the areas around school campuses to ensure a safe start to the summer.
On Friday, May 23, 2025, members of the Duncanville Police Department proudly provided security for BloomFest. The Department was excited to deploy the Bike Unit for this event. This marked the first deployment for the new Bike Unit, which is a dynamic addition to our community policing efforts.
PERSONNEL
- Recruits Tesean Bond and David Perea, in week 22 consisted of delving into a Spanish language refresher to prepare for upcoming real-world scenarios. They also trained in Self-Aid/Buddy-Aid (SABA), focusing on the essential contents of their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs), and completed their first Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT).
- Recruits George Smith and Kevin Sanchez, in week 2 of the police academy, sharpened their written and radio communication skills, mastered the TCIC (Texas Crime Information Center) and NCIC (National Crime Information Center) systems, and learned critical stress management techniques.
- Recruit Victor Gonzalez completed in week 8 in-depth training on arrest, search, and seizure procedures. Gonzalez tackled two full days of immersive, high-pressure scenario training to push his tactical decision-making to the limit.

Encina is Coming!
We are thrilled to announce that Encina, the beloved Oak Cliff restaurant known for its adventurous menu featuring seasonal Texas ingredients, is expanding to Duncanville! The team behind Encina has officially closed on the historic property at 220 North Main Street, formerly home to Duncanville’s original fire station and later a TV repair shop.
Encina, a collaboration between celebrated chef Matt Balke and seasoned restaurant veteran Corey McCombs, has been a staple in the Bishop Arts District since it is opening in 2020.
The addition of Encina to our downtown area marks a significant milestone in Duncanville’s ongoing economic development and revitalization efforts. We are excited to welcome this esteemed establishment to our community and look forward to the vibrancy it will bring to our historic Main Street.

Join us on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Duncanville Recreation Center for this year’s Duncanville 300 Jr. Grand Prix event. We have just over 10 Big Wheel tricycles for races that will take place upstairs on the walking track. In addition, we will build a mini track for the tikes on the west court in the gym. Planning and Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Department has engaged planning consultants to support and assist during staffing shortages. These consultants will review and advise on planning-related matter as required. The Economic Development staff is responsible for gathering information and facilitating its transfer to the consultants.
- The public hearing for the Planning and Zoning meeting on Tuesday, May 12, 2025, has been continued to Monday, June 9, 2025, at 7:00 PM.
- Proposed New Development at the Corner of Cockrell Hill Road and Danieldale Road (Life School)
- The applicant was scheduled for the June 3, 2024, Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission meeting for Planned Development (PD) request; the item was removed from the agenda; future date to be determined.
- A Town Hall Meeting occurred on August 13, 2024.
- Staff met with the applicant on August 26, 2024. Additional items are required before the applicant can be scheduled for a Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission meeting.
- The city emailed the applicant on September 6, 2024. City staff commented that a consulting firm will review traffic impact analysis; however, the firm will be expected to contract with the City of Duncanville after the turn of the fiscal year. To expedite the review, the City staff would be open to agreeing with the applicant to contract a firm to review the traffic impact analysis.
- The applicant submitted a plat application on September 20, 2024. A third party is currently reviewing the plat.
- On October 10, 2024, the applicant submitted a traffic impact analysis from a third-party reviewer to the city.
- On October 22, 2024, there was a meeting between staff and applicants.
- The city agreed to hire a third party to review the project's zoning and engineering.
- The third party met with staff on December 17, 2024, to discuss comments.
- The third-party reviewers met with staff and the applicant on January 14, 2025, to discuss the latest comments.
- Planning & Zoning Public Hearing was held on May 12, 2025.
- Planning & Zoning meetings have been continued to June 9, 2025.

Utilities Division
- The new SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system is under construction. No water usage report is available this week, May 19, 2025- May 25, 2025.
Other Construction
Texas Department of Transportation TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from Cockrell Hill Road in Duncanville to Hampton Road in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and Cockrell Hill Road on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project is estimated to have a completion date of May 2025.
