On Thursday, July 30, 2026, Duncanville honored Chief of Police Matt Stogner for 28 years of service with a Send-Off Ceremony (pictured above). Sworn officers, civilian staff, city leadership, and colleagues past and present turned out to celebrate his career, with heartfelt speeches from Sheriff Marian Brown, retired Chief Jack Long, and others. Chief Stogner's next chapter: leading the department as Chief of Police for the City of Cedar Hill.

The DCEDC Board approve a Community Partner Agreement with the Better Block Foundation for the design, installation, and programming of the "Duncanville Better Block" demonstration project at South Main Street and East Wheatland Road, in an amount not to exceed $236,820. The project will be led internally by the City's Public Works Department with support from Economic Development, Communications & Marketing, and Parks & Recreation. The demonstration project will focus on temporary traffic calming measures and infrastructure to improve pedestrian safety and connections across the Wheatland & S Main St Corridor. The first phase of the project will feature a robust community engagement and survey process that will help inform the design and programming for the project. Post-activation deliverables include data outcomes, findings, and long-term recommendations for the City's consideration.

- Crews mowed athletic fields, Lions Park, Lakeside Park, Quail Run, City Hall, Police Department, Library, Recreation Center, Annex, Fire Station #1, and other corridor properties.
- Staff completed extensive weed eating and applied herbicide to fence lines, tree rings, and cracks/crevices to reduce future maintenance.
- Crews removed storm debris and tree limbs, repaired cable barriers and support poles, and trimmed low-hanging limbs.
- Crews cleared an obstructed drain at City Hall and removed weeds from the Armstrong Park exercise area.
- Staff performed landscape bed maintenance, shrub trimming, weed control, fertilization, and pre-emergent applications at key City facilities.
- Crews removed deteriorated Main Street hanging baskets and identified maintenance items requiring repair.
- Staff replaced a splash pad chlorine feed line, resolved UV system overheating, and maintained daily water quality compliance.
- Crews completed irrigation repairs at Harrington Park and continued inspections of irrigation systems and municipal water sources.
- Crews prepared athletic fields for Summer League games and improved Harrington and Lakeside field conditions.
- Staff applied soil treatment to Harrington soccer fields to improve infiltration and turf health.

Team Highlight – New Recreation Attendant
The Duncanville Recreation Center is excited to welcome Victoria Antuna as the newest Recreation Attendant. Victoria brings a positive attitude, strong customer service skills, and enthusiasm for serving the community. We are excited to have her join the Recreation Team and look forward to the contributions she will make to our members and guests.
Marketing Highlight – Movies in the Park & Boo Bash
This week, the Recreation Center received its printed marketing materials for several upcoming community events, including Movies in the Park: Remember the Titans (September 5), Scooby-Doo (October 17), and Boo Bash (October 23).
Marketing materials include banners and posters displayed throughout the Recreation Center and Library, yard signs placed around Armstrong Park, a large promotional banner at the Recreation Center entrance, and an additional banner at the Duncanville Fieldhouse.
Marketing Highlight – Recreation Information Binders
The Recreation Team has assembled information binders for tables throughout the facility, providing guests with easy access to information on programs, memberships, rentals, camps, and community events.
The binders have become a valuable resource for parents waiting during their children's programs and serve as an effective customer service tool, allowing staff to quickly answer questions and showcase everything the Recreation Center has to offer.
Facility Highlight – Cooling Center
With summer temperatures reaching dangerous levels, the Duncanville Recreation Center continues to serve as a designated Cooling Center for the community. Residents and visitors are welcome to enjoy the air-conditioned facility, water fountains, and comfortable seating areas at no cost.
To date, several guests have utilized the Cooling Center to escape the heat, demonstrating the Recreation Center's continued commitment to serving the community during extreme weather conditions.
Member Highlight – Jerry Burns
Longtime Recreation Center member Jerry Burns continues to inspire both staff and fellow members with his commitment to fitness. Having worked out at the Recreation Center for over 15 years, Jerry recently shared his excitement for the planned weight room expansion.
One of Jerry's favorite pieces of equipment is the dual-function bicep and triceps machine. As Jerry approaches his 89th birthday this September, we are grateful for his continued dedication and for choosing the Duncanville Recreation Center as his fitness home.
Community Highlight – Back-to-School Event
This past weekend, the City of Duncanville partnered with the Duncanville ISD and the Ron Holland Foundation to support the annual Back-to-School Event.
The event was a tremendous success, providing more than 800 backpacks filled with school supplies to local students. Families also enjoyed free haircuts, a braid bar, a live DJ, and a variety of community vendors.

Festival de las Américas Update
Planning continues to progress for the City's inaugural Festival de las Américas, which will celebrate the diverse cultures and traditions of Latin America while recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month. The event will serve as one of Duncanville's signature cultural festivals and is designed to provide a family-friendly experience featuring live entertainment, authentic cuisine, cultural performances, community engagement, and local businesses.
Entertainment
Entertainment contracts continue to be finalized. Confirmed performances include:
- EZ Band as the festival headliner.
- Mariachi Las Alteñas, an internationally recognized all-female mariachi ensemble.
- Discussions continue with Ballet Folklórico Huehuecoyotl to provide traditional folklórico performances.
- Staff is also working to secure additional cultural performers and community entertainment to provide continuous programming throughout the event.

- The Planning and Zoning department is working on updates to the land use chart and Zoning Ordinance.

PUBLIC WORKS
Construction Notice
The City of Duncanville is starting construction! Please anticipate increased traffic and delays in the area. Construction will begin on April 25, 2026, with an estimated completion in mid-May 2027. Please note that rocky soil conditions and weather can impact the scheduled timeline.
Who: Residents of Duncanville
What: The project consists of the reconstruction of roadway paving, drainage, water, wastewater, sidewalk, and pedestrian improvements.
Where: North Cedar Ridge Drive from Cathy Self-Morgan Way/Middale to W. Camp Wisdom Road.
When: April 25, 2026, through mid-May 2027.
Why: To repair the roadway and utilities that have exceeded their lifetime and provide better service and safety to the residents and public.
Solid Waste Update
The City of Duncanville is committed to providing exceptional customer service while maintaining competitive and sustainable solid waste rates for our residents and businesses.
On July 8, 2026, the City issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the collection and disposal of residential and commercial solid waste, recycling, and brush/bulk materials. We are pleased to report that the solicitation has generated significant interest from qualified service providers.
The RFP submission period will close on August 12, 2026. Following the deadline, City staff will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all proposals to identify the firm that provides the best overall value to the community.
The City anticipates awarding a contract that will become effective on October 1, 2027.
We encourage residents to stay informed by following the City's website and social media channels as we provide updates throughout the procurement process. Our next update will include information regarding a briefing to the Duncanville City Council.

Street Division
- Crews repaired asphalt streets on Van Rowe Avenue and Hopkins Avenue.
- Crews utilized the brush truck to remove tree branches obstructing the roadway on Winding Trail, Oriole Boulevard, Danieldale Road, and Hill City Drive.
- Crews located nine utility storm drains in various locations throughout the city
- Crew repaired 33 potholes in various locations throughout the city.
- Crew poured concrete on South Cockrell Hill Road.
Utilities Division
- From July 20-26, 2026, 45,693,000 gallons of water were pumped. There was an estimated loss of 630,000 gallons of water.
