The Texas America 250 exhibit is now on display at the Duncanville Public Library! This exhibit highlights historically significant Texas Treasures from the State Archives, encouraging all Americans to explore the story of the Lone Star State over the past 250 years. This is a great way for Texans of all ages to learn more about the state’s role in U.S. history.
On Tuesday, July 28 (2 – 3 PM), Brett Roberts and his puppet friends teach us about dinosaurs with the Dino Puppet Show! This event is ideal for children of all ages.
There’s a new quilting program in town! For anyone age 11 and up who is interested in quilting, the first session will be on Saturday, August 1 (3 – 5:30 PM). This is open to any level. Limited supplies are available for use. Bringing your own fabric and batting is recommended.

- Crews began topdressing athletic fields until equipment repairs became necessary.
- Staff continued storm cleanup by cutting and staging trees at Rotary and Willow Run Parks.

Recreation Center
Facility Highlight – New Seated Leg Press Machine
This week, the Duncanville Recreation Center received its new Seated Leg Press Machine, courtesy of Marathon Fitness. The new equipment replaces the previously retired leg press machine, restoring one of the fitness center's most popular strength-training equipment. This addition enhances the member experience by providing a safe and reliable way for guests to strengthen their lower body while supporting the Recreation Center's commitment to maintaining quality fitness amenities.
Program Highlight – Volleyball Fridays
Every Friday evening, the Duncanville Recreation Center hosts Open Play Volleyball from 6:00–9:00 p.m. Members can participate at no additional cost, while non-members are welcome with the purchase of a $5 day pass.
Volleyball Fridays continue to provide a fun, active, and social environment where players of all skill levels can enjoy friendly competition and connect with others in the community.
Amenity Highlight – Gaming Area
This summer, the Duncanville Recreation Center introduced its newest amenity featuring a PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Since its debut, the space has quickly become a favorite among members of all ages.
The Gaming Area allows families to enjoy games together, such as Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros., while also providing an additional activity for members when the gym is reserved for scheduled programs. Popular titles including NBA 2K, NCAA College Football, and EA Sports FC (FIFA) have created opportunities for members to connect, make new friends, and enjoy another unique recreational experience at the Recreation Center.
Special Events
Festival de las Américas Update
Planning continues to progress for the City's inaugural Festival de las Américas, which will celebrate the diverse cultures and traditions of Latin America while recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month. The event will serve as one of Duncanville's signature cultural festivals and is designed to provide a family-friendly experience featuring live entertainment, authentic cuisine, cultural performances, community engagement, and local businesses.
Entertainment
Entertainment contracts continue to be finalized. Confirmed performances include:
- EZ Band as the festival headliner.
- Mariachi Las Alteñas, an internationally recognized all-female mariachi ensemble.
- Discussions continue with Ballet Folklórico Huehuecoyotl to provide traditional folklórico performances.
- Staff is also working to secure additional cultural performers and community entertainment to provide continuous programming throughout the event.
Parade & Community Participation
Planning is underway for the annual parade, which will feature community organizations, schools, businesses, and local partners. Golf carts will be secured for City Council participation to assist with the parade procession.
Staff is also coordinating with local automotive organizations to introduce a Car Show adjacent to the basketball courts, expanding programming and attracting additional attendees.

PUBLIC WORKS
Construction Notice
The City of Duncanville is starting construction! Please anticipate increased traffic and delays in the area. Construction will begin on April 25, 2026, with an estimated completion in mid-May 2027. Please note that rocky soil conditions and weather can impact the scheduled timeline.
Who: Residents of Duncanville
What: The project consists of the reconstruction of roadway paving, drainage, water, wastewater, sidewalk, and pedestrian improvements.
Where: North Cedar Ridge Drive from Cathy Self-Morgan Way/Middale to W. Camp Wisdom Road.
When: April 25, 2026, through mid-May 2027.
Why: To repair the roadway and utilities that have exceeded their lifetime and provide better service and safety to the residents and public.

Public Works Engineering
- Cedar Ridge Road Reconstruction (RFB 25-0014)
- Status: In Progress
- Construction continues on the Cedar Ridge Road Reconstruction Project with ongoing sanitary sewer installation, roadway improvements, and quality assurance inspections. City staff conducted the bi-weekly progress meeting with Estrada Concrete LLC and the Engineer of Record to review project status, staffing changes, traffic control, outstanding submittals, and non-compliance items.
- Traffic control operations continue to safely accommodate residents, businesses, emergency responders, and Duncanville High School. Coordination is ongoing for the next traffic switch to minimize impacts before the start of the school year.
- Camp Wisdom / Forest Hill CDBG ADA Improvements
- Status: Near Completion
- Construction remains ahead of schedule and is approaching completion. Corrective work associated with previously identified ADA ramp installation issues is progressing as planned. The contractor will install two additional ADA-compliant ramps at no additional cost to the City, and a change order will be processed for additional concrete placed around fire hydrants. Final inspections and project closeout activities are being scheduled.
Right-of-Way Permitting
The MGO Right-of-Way Permitting System continues to operate successfully. Contractor registrations, permit reviews, inspections, and compliance enforcement remain on schedule. Staff continues assisting contractors and utility companies with registration and permit requirements while improving permit processing and inspection documentation.
Engineering & Development Review
Engineering staff continued reviewing development plans, utility improvements, and right-of-way permit applications to ensure compliance with City standards, drainage requirements, utility regulations, and applicable engineering criteria.
Street Division
- Crews cleaned headwalls at various locations throughout the city.
- Crew used the brush truck to assist with bulk trash collection efforts across the city.
- Crew delivered barricades to the library in support of a scheduled event.
- Crew removed trees obstructing the roadway at West Center Street and Sharon Drive.
- Crew repaired 32 potholes in multiple locations.
Utilities Division
- From July 13-19, 2026, 35,837,200 gallons of water were pumped. There was an estimated 227,500 gallons of water loss.
