CODE ENFORCEMENT

Rental Weekly Inspection Report

  • A total of 27 rental inspections were scheduled this week: 0 passed, 27 failed, and 0 were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection, missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, inadequate ground rods, and water heaters that did not meet current code standards.
  • 0 Single Family Rental Certificates of Occupancy have been reissued, and there are 11 apartment units this week, and zero complaints.

COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING 

Installation of new LED display at S. Main St. and E. Wheatland Rd. is expected to take place during the first half of November 2025.


PUBLIC NOTICE

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the City of Duncanville will be conducting a stream condition assessment on November 18, 2025, and November 19, 2025, as part of our Drainage Master Plan/Stream Condition Assessment.

The area covered on November 18th will be Mauk Branch from E. Wheatland Rd to E Danieldale Rd. The area covered on November 19th will be Ten Mile Creek from S Main St to East City Limits. The fieldwork involves walking in and along the stream channel. Minimal disruption is expected, and all personnel will carry official identification. To help stop the spread of mosquitoes, residents should get rid of any standing water around their homes. You should also report dirty pools or abandoned homes where mosquitoes might be breeding. To report, call Duncanville Health Services at (972) 780-5000 or use the OurDuncanville app, found in the Apple App Store or Google Play.

To protect yourself from West Nile Virus, use bug spray with DEET. It's also a good idea to stay inside during dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are out the most.

  • EMT conducted the monthly Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) test, alerting the Cities of Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Duncanville.

Special Events

The Event Planning Committee met this week to continue preparations for the upcoming Holiday Lights in the Park celebration and parade. The group focused on finalizing parade operations, participant management, and on-site logistics to ensure a smooth and festive experience for all attendees.

 The City of Duncanville invites everyone to mark their calendars for Holiday Lights in the Park, happening Friday, December 5, 2025 at Armstrong Park! This festive community tradition will feature dazzling lights, live entertainment, the annual parade, and a special visit from Santa Larry.

Food Applications Closing Soon

Food vendor applications will officially close at 5:00 PM on Friday, November 7, 2025. Interested vendors are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to secure a spot at this year’s event.

  • Crews cleaned up the Cockrell Hill underpass.
  • Crews removed a fallen tree from a homeowner’s property at Harrington Park.
  • Crews performed citywide playground inspections at Armstrong, Harrington, Red Bird, Lakeside, Waterview, Alexander, and Chris Paris Parks.
  • Crews removed fallen and dead trees at Rotary Park, Cedar Ridge, and along the James Collins fence line.
  • Crews completed City Hall landscape cleanup, including Elephant Ear and Hibiscus trimming, and Decomposed Granite area restoration.
  • Staff performed bed maintenance at Rotary, Kidsville, Splash Pad, and multiple raised beds (Cedar Ridge, Wheatland, Duncanville Recreation Center, and the Duncanville Library).

Weekly Highlight

This week, we are excited to highlight the launch of our newest program, Kidokinetics! This class will be held every Monday throughout November from 10:00 AM to 10:45 Designed for children ages 1–5, the program helps young participants develop motor and cognitive skills in a non-competitive environment while building confidence. Each class introduces a new sport, focusing on teaching balance, hand-eye coordination, and dexterity. The class is $80 for a month or $20 per drop-in session.

Program Update:

Ayyye Line Dancing hosted a Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness–themed class this week. Participants wore pink and purple and enjoyed a special session that combined line dancing with meaningful awareness efforts. Following the class, instructor Tiffany Ashford provided snacks, treats, and refreshments. A total of 15 participants attended and took part in this event.
In the room next door, our Jazzercise class held its 3rd Annual Glow Party, raising funds to support food donations for the Tri-City Animal Shelter. The event welcomed 20 participants and successfully raised nearly $700. Instructor Sheilla Jhonston organized a raffle with prizes and also provided snacks and refreshments.

PUBLIC WORKS 

Cedar Ridge Drive Improvements

  • On October 8, 2025, staff held a bid opening for the Cedar Ridge Drive Roadway Improvements Project. Eight bids were received, and staff are currently reviewing the submissions.

Right-of-Way Permitting

  • Ironhorse Construction is wrapping up Phase 2 of the Atmos gas main rehabilitation project and is expected to be completed within the next 6 weeks. There will be two additional phases of construction to follow.

Street Division

  • Crews laid a drive approach tie-in with asphalt on Lady Lane.
  • Crews repaired a utility cut by pouring concrete on Adams Avenue.
  • Crews replanted and watered grass around the newly installed ADA ramp, sidewalk, curb, and gutter replacements at Shannon Drive and Meadowglen Drive.
  • Crews repaired a utility cut with hot mix asphalt on Adams Avenue.
  • Crews laid hot mix asphalt on Greenway Drive.
  • Crews repaired seven potholes across various locations throughout the city.
  • Crews removed two fallen trees from the right-of-way at Eastbound Wheatland Road and Carder Street.
  • Crews completed phase two of ADA ramp, sidewalk, curb, and gutter replacements at Shannon Drive and Meadowglen Drive, Kathrine Court/Alexander Avenue.
  • Crews removed a tree obstructing the creek flowline on Greenway Drive.

Utilities Division

  • From October 27 – November 2, 2025, 29,949,730 gallons of water were pumped. The estimated water loss for that week was 202,262 gallons, including hydrant flushing.
