Recreation Center
Camp Highlight – Brazilian United Soccer Camp (BUSCA)
This week, the Duncanville Recreation Center is proud to host its first annual Brazilian United Soccer Camp (BUSCA). The camp welcomes Coach Arthur, a native of Brazil, who has traveled to the United States to teach participants the fundamentals and techniques of Brazilian-style soccer.
The camp currently has 13 participants who are taking part in a variety of skill-building drills, scrimmages, and team activities throughout the week. This partnership marks an exciting step toward expanding the Parks and Recreation Department's outdoor recreation programming while providing youth with a unique and high-quality soccer experience.
Tournament Highlight – Round Robin Pickleball Tournament
The Recreation Center recently hosted its first Round Robin Pickleball Tournament, welcoming six teams (12 participants) for a fun and competitive evening of play.
Rather than a traditional round-robin elimination format, the tournament champion was determined by total points earned throughout the tournament. This scoring format kept every match meaningful and allowed all teams to remain competitive until the final game. Staff looks forward to building on the success of this tournament and growing participation in future pickleball events.
Organization Highlight – Our Lives Matter
The Duncanville Recreation Center is happy to welcome “Our Lives Matter” to the facility this summer. The organization has taken full advantage of the Recreation Center's Summer Student Membership program, visiting the facility regularly and utilizing a variety of amenities.
Under the supervision of their counselor, participants enjoy arts and crafts, Nintendo gaming, basketball, and other recreational activities inside the facility. Campers will also utilize the Splash Pad and the playground.
The Recreation Center is proud to provide a safe, welcoming, and family-friendly environment where organizations like Our Lives Matter can create memorable summer experiences while keeping participants active, engaged, and connected to the community.
Facility Highlight – Duncanville Police Department Defensive Tactics Training
This week, the Duncanville Police Department utilized the Recreation Center's Aerobics Room to conduct a private defensive tactics training for newly hired officers. The space provided a private and flexible environment for officers to practice hands-on techniques and complete essential training exercises.
The Recreation Center is proud to support the Duncanville Police Department by providing quality facilities that meet the needs of our public safety partners. Partnerships like this maximize the use of City facilities, strengthen collaboration between departments, and demonstrate the Recreation Center's ability to serve a wide variety of community and organizational needs. We are grateful for the opportunity to support our officers as they prepare to serve and protect the Duncanville community.
