Arts Commission
The Duncanville Arts Commission and the Duncanville Community and Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) invite you to an evening of art, culture, and connection at the Arts & Business Mixer on June 11, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Olden Year Museum, 1050 N. Duncanville Road in Duncanville.
This free, public event gives guests the opportunity to explore a fascinating collection of more than 500 mechanical music instruments, including gramophones, calliopes, hurdy-gurdies, and more.
Bites and beverages from Odom’s Bar-B-Que will also be provided.

Rental Weekly Inspection Report
A total of 31 rental inspections were scheduled: 13 passed, 18 failed, and 0 were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection, missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, and ground rods and water heaters that were not up to current code.
9 Single Family Rental Certificates of Occupancy have been reissued.
A total of 11 Apartment Unit Inspections have been completed. There were 0 complaints.

Emergency Management
- Emergency Management staff attending the Texas Emergency Management Conference this week.
Fire Administration
- Getting bids on Fire Station 2 improvements. A firefighter from each shift plus Building Maintenance staff member Carlos Fernandez are assisting on the project.
- Chief Leary submitted a proposal to Jennifer Otey on May 27 for a Fire Department Cost Recovery Program for City leadership to consider. The program bills insurance companies for fire operations services rendered. Coppel, Flower Mound, Mansfield, Wylie, Anna, and Watauga utilize this program. More details to follow.
- Emergency Management Services Division will be tracking the new First Due electronic patient care reporting approved by City Council on March 17 to ensure proposed deliverables are achieved. Once training is completed and implementation is initiated, a monthly update will be provided to City Management.
- Work on the Texas Fire Chiefs Association Best Practices project is now 80% complete. Expected completion in 2026.
- Work on the Insurance Services Office (ISO) project, and will schedule an ISO inspection in 2027 to attain a Class 1 rating. Increasing monthly fire training to the required 16 hours a month starting in April 2026. Need a year of 16 hours a month of fire-related training to get full credit with ISO.

As part of the business recruitment and attraction strategy for commercial retail sites, the Economic Development staff attended the ICSC Las Vegas retail convention (May 18–20), one of the largest retail real estate events in the world, representing Duncanville with a two-person staff delegation supported by our real estate advisory partners at Catalyst Commercial. Combined, the team conducted approximately 15 brand meetings, site discussions, and organizational connections across the three-day event. A detailed summary of outcomes, contacts, and follow-up actions will be published next week and incorporated into the department's upcoming semi-annual report.

Recreation Center
Community Event Highlight – Memorial Day Ceremony
This past Monday, the Duncanville Recreation Center hosted its annual Memorial Day Ceremony at War Memorial Park. The event was well attended by community members, veterans, and families and featured special guest speaker Col. James T. Williams.
The Recreation Center partnered with several organizations to help make the event possible, including VFW Post 7843, Duncanville ISD JROTC, and DeSoto West Middle School. The ceremony continues to grow each year and remains a meaningful opportunity for the community to come together in remembrance and appreciation.
The event also generated increased activity for the local Donut shop located across the street from the park, which experienced a noticeable increase in customer traffic as attendees stopped in for breakfast prior to the ceremony. Events such as these continue to positively impact both community engagement and local business support.
The success of this event was also made possible through the support and collaboration of multiple City departments, including Parks, Duncanville Police Department, and Streets, all working together to provide a championship-level community atmosphere.
Community Event Highlights – Concert in the Park: Memphis Soul
- This past Saturday, the Recreation Center kicked off the first Concert in the Park of the year featuring the jazz and soul group Memphis Soul. The event welcomed approximately 200 attendees who enjoyed live music, dancing, and family-friendly food options provided by Kathy’s Kitchen.
- The evening was filled with line dancing, slow dancing, and strong community engagement as Armstrong Park came alive with music and entertainment. Memphis Soul has quickly become a community favorite, and staff looks forward to welcoming the group back again next year.
Facility Highlights – Popcorn Fridays
This past Friday, the Recreation Center launched its summer “Popcorn Fridays” initiative. Guests were provided with freshly popped popcorn as they exited the facility, helping create a fun and family-friendly atmosphere for visitors throughout the summer season.
Program Highlights – Archery
- This week, the Recreation Center would like to highlight the Archery Program. Through expanded marketing efforts, the program has started attracting new participants of various ages and skill levels.
- Coach Pennebaker continues to provide professional and educational experience for participants ranging from young beginners learning basic skills to experienced archers looking to sharpen their technique. This summer, the program will offer a special promotion of $20 per month for archery class.
Membership Highlights – Summer Student Membership
- As summer approaches, students ages 16–22 are continuing to take advantage of the Summer Student Membership program. To date, the Recreation Center has sold eight memberships.
- This affordable membership option provides students access to a variety of Recreation Center amenities and encourages youth engagement throughout the summer months. Staff looks forward to welcoming more students to the Recreation Center family this season.
Marketing Highlights – DFW Kids Guide & Promotional Videos
- Last week, Recreation Center Marketing Specialist Aidan Pennebaker continued expanding the department’s marketing efforts through new digital media strategies.
- Recent initiatives include the creation of short promotional videos similar in style to social media “TikTok”-style content. Staff are already beginning to see positive impacts from these efforts through increased interest and participation in programs and events.
- Additionally, the Recreation Center started utilizing the DFW Kids Guide as another platform to promote City programs, activities, camps, and community events.

Red, White, & Goals | July 3–4, 2026
The City of Duncanville is excited to announce the return of its annual Independence Day celebration, reimagined as Red, White, & Goals, a two-day community event taking place on July 3 and July 4, 2026. This expanded celebration will bring together patriotic festivities, family-friendly entertainment, soccer-themed activities, and community traditions for residents and visitors alike.
This year’s event will feature a wide variety of attractions and entertainment, including:
- Amusement rides and interactive activities
- Live music and entertainment
- Food trucks and market vendors
- Family-friendly games and attractions
- A community watch party experience
- Fireworks on July 4
- And much more
Activities will begin on Friday, July 3, with a community watch party and themed activities designed to bring residents together in celebration of summer, sports, and community spirit.
On Saturday, July 4, festivities will continue throughout the day, highlighted by the longstanding community tradition of the Duncanville Lions Club Parade, beginning at 9:00 AM. The parade remains one of Duncanville’s most anticipated Independence Day traditions and continues to serve as a cornerstone of the celebration. The evening celebration on July 4 will include live entertainment, activities for all ages, food and vendor experiences, and conclude with a community fireworks show.
The expanded two-day format is designed to increase community engagement, create additional tourism opportunities, support local vendors and businesses, and provide residents with an enhanced holiday experience. Staff continues to coordinate logistics, vendor participation, entertainment, sponsorships, safety operations, and marketing efforts in preparation for the event.
Vendor applications are currently open, and additional event details, schedules, and announcements will be released through the City’s communication channels and the Duncanville Special Events social media platforms in the coming weeks.
Staff looks forward to welcoming the community to another exciting summer celebration in Duncanville.

- The Planning & Zoning department completed 10 plan reviews related to plats, site plans, and zoning changes.
- The Planning & Zoning Department is currently working on updating the land use chart along with zoning text amendment updates for the Zoning Ordinance.

Construction Notice
The City of Duncanville is starting construction! Please anticipate increased traffic and delays in the area. Construction will begin on April 25, 2026, with an estimated completion of mid- May 2027. Please note that rocky soil conditions and weather can impact the scheduled timeline.
Who: Residents of Duncanville
What: Project: The project consists of the reconstruction of roadway paving, drainage, water, wastewater, sidewalk, and pedestrian improvements.
Where: North Cedar Ridge Drive from Cathy Self-Morgan Way/Middale to W. Camp Wisdom Road.
When: April 25, 2026, through mid-May 2027.
Why: To repair the roadway and utilities that have exceeded their lifetime and provide better service and safety to the residents and public.

Street Division
- Crew cut and removed a fallen tree obstructing the alleyway behind East Cherry Street.
- Crew cleaned 14 storm drain inlets within the city limits.
- Crews repaired eight potholes at various locations throughout the city.
- Crews completed 13 utility drainage locates across various locations throughout the city.
- Crews assisted the City Construction Inspector by removing traffic control devices from Brookwood Drive.
- Crews removed sediment build‑up from rain gutters on Ascot Drive.
- Crews cleared debris from eight creek headwall locations within the city limits.
- Crews stacked sandbags and removed accumulated mud from the alleyway on Mizell Street.
- Crews utilized the brush truck to support bulk and brush hauling operations citywide.

- Due to computer issues, the gallons pumped this week are not available. The estimated water loss for that week was 227,500 gallons.
