Recreation Center
Community Event Highlight – Jr Grand Prix 300
This past weekend, the Duncanville Recreation Center hosted the annual Duncanville Jr. Grand Prix 300, a tremendous success that welcomed approximately 150 attendees. Upon arrival, participants registered for the race and received a VIP Racing Lanyard before enjoying a variety of racing-themed activities throughout the facility.
Some of the most popular attractions included a life-size Lightning McQueen display and racing simulator provided by HBL Towing, where guests could take photos and play a racing video game from the driver's seat. Additional activities included a Hot Wheels station, Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch, face painting, coloring stations, ping-pong, and foosball.
The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the racing competition itself. The Recreation Center gymnasium was transformed into two trike racing tracks—one focused on speed and the other on precision driving. Upstairs, the indoor walking track became a racecourse for teens and adults, where participants completed three laps and competed for the fastest overall time.
At the conclusion of the event, winners were recognized in three trike divisions:
- Level 1: Small Trikes
- Level 2: Medium Trikes
- Level 3: Large Trikes
Each division was awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals, along with Hot Wheels race cars. Prior to the awards ceremony, guests participated in several raffle drawings featuring prizes such as a portable speaker and portable battery charger for the adults. The teens and kids raffle featured prizes such as two remote-control race cars and a Hot Wheels race car pack.
As a final send-off, participants received racing-themed goodie bags containing miniature race cars, temporary tattoos, Play-Doh, and candy. Throughout the event, complimentary concessions, including popcorn, water, and Gatorade, were provided to attendees.
A special highlight of the raceway was a friendly but highly competitive race between City Council Member Jeremy Koontz and City Council Member Domenica Goodin!
This event was made possible through the efforts of the Recreation Team, volunteers from The Village of Privilege, and Duncanville ISD. As well as Johnny Murray and the Streets Department for providing cones and barricades that helped transform the facility into a race-day experience.
The significant increase in attendance, more than double last year's event, demonstrates that the Recreation teams’ expanded marketing efforts are producing positive results. The Duncanville Jr. Grand Prix continues to provide a one-of-a-kind experience that only the Duncanville Parks and Recreation Department can offer: a fun, family-oriented, and competitive atmosphere where residents create lasting memories while experiencing a true championship-level community event here in the City of Champions!
