The D.L. Hopkins Jr. Senior Center hosted the Black History

Month Fireside Chat with Ms. Opal Lee. The Fireside Chat

was moderated by Councilmember DeMonica Gooden and

Councilmember Karen Cherry-Brown. Entertainment was

provided by Sierra Leone.

Police Department

 

Officers Luis Alvidrez, Rogelio Hernandez, Roccio Vazquez,

Ashely Garcia, Michael Hankins, and Andrew Paczocha were

presented with the Life Saving Award for their heroic actions

in entering a residence to remove two individuals during a fire.

Officers Esmeralda Pineda, Fares Acosta, and Jordan Sherman

were presented with the Police Medal of Valor Award for their

heroic actions in apprehending an armed suspect who had

presented a grave danger to the public and the officers

attempting to take him into custody.

Sergeant Robert Byrd and Officer David Rawlins were presented

with the Life Saving Award for their heroic actions in locating

a suicidal subject. With the help of our 911 Dispatcher, they could

track the individual using cellular location services. The individual

was located as he attempted to cause harm to himself. Our officers

intervened and were able to transport the individual to a nearby

hospital.

  • Check Payments: 19 invoices were processed, totaling $39,951.81

Recreation Center

Duncanville Parks and Recreation Department proudly celebrates Black History Month

The Duncanville Parks and Recreation Department proudly celebrates Black History Month by

highlighting many African Americans and their contribution to our nation’s history. Displays can

be found at City Hall, D.L. Hopkins Jr. Senior Center, and Duncanville Recreation Center all month

long.

Daddy Daughter Dance – Saturday, February 17, 2024 | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM Tickets are on sale now for this year’s

Daddy Daughter Dance! Capture special daddy-daughter memories with a lovely evening with dinner, dancing,

and fun giveaways. Tickets are $50.00 per couple and $15.00 for each additional daughter. Formal dress

is required. All ages are welcome. To purchase a ticket and for more information, contact the Recreation

Center at (972) 780-5070.

The Next Wednesday Book Club session will begin on February 21, 2024

Monthly Cursive Writing Classes for third, fourth, and fifth-grade students will begin

on Saturday, February 10, 2024

The Red Cross will be hosting monthly blood drives at the Library. The next blood drive will

be on Monday, February 5, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

  • SYB Construction water tie-ins are complete. Final paving repairs are underway. 
  •  A final inspection is scheduled for Friday, February 9.

  •  The Building Inspections Division issued the temporary certificate of occupancy on February 5.

Cherry Alley Phase 1

  •  On Friday, February 2, the CCGMG poured the first 60 cubic yards of concrete for the new alley.

Fire Department

Duncanville Fire Department (Station #2 – C Shift) and Chief Rohde recently visited with City Administration, including City Manager Doug Finch, Assistant City Manager Robert Brown, Assistant to the City Manager David Kees, and Executive Liaison Sofine Lewis

The men and women of the Duncanville Fire Department (Station #2 – B Shift) and Chief Rohde recently visited with City Administration, including City Manager Doug Finch, Assistant City Manager Robert Brown, Assistant to the City Manager David Kees, and Executive Liaison Sofine Lewis to share their thoughts on the operations of the Duncanville Fire Department and their experience in responding for service to the City of Duncanville. During the visit, City Manager Doug Finch presented recognition certificates to Captain James Self, Engineer Robert Shaw, Firefighter/EMT-P Caden Clinton, Firefighter/EMT-P Kyle Dalton, and Firefighter/EMT-P Antonio Jones.

City Manager Douglas Finch presented recognition certificates.
