DUNCANVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT

Firefighter/Paramedic Evan Barger of the Duncanville Fire Department, alongside Firefighter/Paramedic Jerry Cervantes of the Lancaster Fire Department, and Captain Steve Eldred and Driver/Engineer of the Desoto Fire Department

Firefighter/Paramedic Evan Barger of the Duncanville Fire Department, alongside Firefighter/Paramedic Jerry Cervantes of the Lancaster Fire Department, and Captain Steve Eldred and Driver/Engineer of the Desoto Fire Department are deployed on the West Texas wildfires. The Regional Team is currently assigned to protect structure fires in Fritch.


DUNCANVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY

Join the Duncanville Library as it kicks off its Spring Break activities. There will be lots of fun and free activities for the kiddos next week.

Accounting & Reporting – Weeks of February 28 – March 6: 

  • EFT Payments: 77 invoices were processed, totaling $882,170.47
  • Check Payments: 61 invoices were processed, totaling $214,554.58

The Human Resources Department is currently recruiting for the following positions: 


 POLICE DEPARTMENT

Members of the Duncanville community donated teddy bears to our Patrol Division. Our patrol officers keep these toys in their patrol vehicles and provide them to children during certain calls for service.

Projects

Armstrong Park

The installation of the irrigation system, restroom plumbing and fixtures, and plants and vegetation have all been completed at Armstrong Park (photos below).

Parks

  • Staff attended Splashpad training.
  • Crews conducted tree maintenance and litter removal at the Duncanville Fieldhouse.
  • Spectator tables at batting cages at Harrington Park have been installed.
  • Field maintenance continues in preparation for association practices beginning. 
  • Crews assisted with resolving flow line issues at Lions Park.
  • Litter removal has been completed at North Main and I-20 Railroad right-of-way.
  • Crews removed brush and illegal dumping from the Charles F. Ladd Nature Preserve property.
  • The Keep Duncanville Beautiful Board will host their annual Garden Workshop on Saturday, March 9, at the D.L. Hopkins Jr. Senior Center from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.

The 2024 B.O.S.S. Summer Camp registration begins on April 15.

Princess Tea Party – Saturday, March 23, 2024 | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Join us for a magical day with your favorite princesses! Escape to a magical world of fun, laughter, and amusement. Snacks will be served, and guests will have the opportunity to visit one-on-one with various princesses and take photos! Tickets are on sale now! $15.00 per child and $10.00 per adult. Economic Development – Certificates of Occupancy Issued:

  • Assembly of Modular Cabinets (Box) Fabrication of Granite Countertops for Kitchens and Baths, new occupancy: 1414 N. Main St., Suite #A & B 

PUBLIC WORKS

Street Division

  • Crews repaired 19 potholes on W. Wheatland Rd., S. Santa Fe Trl., 1400 block of Cedar Hill Rd., Cedar Hill Rd. at Coronado Pl., W. Center St., on N Cedar Ridge Dr., and S. Alexander Ave.
  • The concrete drive approach on Rocky Creek Dr. has been repaired.
  • Crews removed a vehicle tire from the inside lane on Main St.
  • The asphalt utility cut on Wilson Ct. has been repaired.
  • Crews repaired an asphalt drive approach tie-ins on Bow Creek Dr. and Lodema Ln.
  • Debris from the Lions Park Creek flowline on S. Peach St. has been removed.

Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Construction

Fire Station

  • CIP Construction has begun the installation of the perimeter fence this week.

 

Cherry Alley Phase 1

  • Concrete placement for driveway approaches to resident driveways is underway. Three driveway approaches remain. 

E. Danieldale Rd. Reconstruction and Utility Improvements Project

  • The project is substantially complete; staff is working with the contractor to complete all remaining items.
  • Final project acceptance is in March.
  • Completion of the monument is slightly delayed and is now scheduled for completion in March.

Summit Pump Generator

City Council awarded the contract for the furnishing and installation of a standby generator for the Summit Water Pump Station to Texan Municipal and Industrial, a division of Texan Electric Co., Inc., on October 17, 2023. Staff held the preconstruction meeting with the contractor on Monday, February 19. The notice to proceed was issued to the contractor, and mobilization should begin within the next few weeks. Completion of this project is subject to the lead time necessary to obtain the generator. 

Ten Mile Creek Embarkment and Drainage Improvements 

City Council awarded the contract for embankment and drainage improvements along Ten Mile Creek to Stoic Civil Construction, Inc., on November 21, 2023. Staff held the preconstruction meeting with the contractor on Tuesday, February 20. The project is expected to begin during the week of March 11th.

Wren Ave. and Oriole Blvd. Water Main Replacement I-20 Aerial Crossing

City Council awarded the contract for utility infrastructure improvements along Wren Ave. from Oriole Blvd. to Winding Trl. to Texas Standard Construction Ltd. on November 21, 2023. Staff held the preconstruction meeting with the contractor on Monday, February 19. Construction is underway.
