A DeSoto Police Department High-Intensity Crime Reduction Unit (HICRU) investigation culminated on April 18th with the multi-agency arrests of four men; the seizure of 142 pounds of marijuana; and the recovery of six handguns, two assault-style pistols, an assault-style rifle, and over $42,000 in cash. One of the handguns was stolen.

Started in 2016, the Property Improvement Program (PIP) Days, is a partnership between the First United Methodist Church in Duncanville, the City’s Neighborhood Vitality Commission, and volunteers from the within the community. Twice per year, the PIP Days’ volunteers repair the exterior of homes, assist with fence repairs, or complete yard work for Duncanville homeowners who cannot complete these projects themselves due to life circumstances. These cosmetic updates help to bring local residences back to community standards while eliminating a stressor for the homeowner.

The 2018 Duncanville Bond Program was approved by voters in November of that same year. The program originally consisted of 10 projects organized into four propositions. Proposition B included the allocation of $5,033,000 for the reconstruction of a segment of Danieldale Road. The reconstruction project includes replacing the water lines beneath the surface as well as new pavement. Once complete, the configuration will be a four-lane divided roadway with hike and bike trails along the north and south sides.

On Sunday, January 15, 2023, at approximately 2:26 a.m., Duncanville Police Officers responded to a call for service regarding a shooting with injuries at 1547 Sunrise Lane. Within minutes, officers arrived at the location and discovered an adult male suffering from a single apparent gunshot wound. The officers provided immediate medical assistance to the male and summoned Duncanville Fire Department paramedics. However, shortly after their arrival, paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

At a hearing this morning, the UIL State Executive Committee voted to suspend Coach David Peavy for one year for playing a student that the Committee determined was an ineligible player. In addition to Coach Peavy’s suspension, the Committee determined that the Duncanville Boys Basketball program forfeits all games in which the student played and therefore forfeits the 2022 Conference 6A Boys Basketball State Championship.
